Autumn Chutney with Black Sheep Ale
There is a moment each autumn when the plums hang heavy, the apples are ready for picking and the pub fire is lit for the first time of the season.
This chutney gathers all of that into one jar. Ripe plums and orchard apples are slow-cooked with Black Sheep Ale, bringing a deep, malty richness balanced by gentle spice. It is robust, fruity and full of character, the kind of flavour that belongs beside a crackling hearth.
Serve it with a wedge of strong Cheddar and crusty bread, spoon it alongside a pork pie or sausage roll, or add it to a ploughman's lunch after a long walk through the falling leaves.
